Elizabeth Williams

Funeral services for Elizabeth Williams (Sis) will be held Wednesday November 2 at the Wilson Orwosky Funeral Home.  Visitation will be from 10am to 11am with memorial beginning at 11am.  Burial will be afterwards at Turner Cemetery in Emory.

Elizabeth Marie Armstrong Williams was born December 22, 1914 to Russell Martin Armstrong and Mattie Ann Hutchins.  She passed from this life on October 29, 2016, at age 101.

She went by the nickname “Sis” for most of her life.  Sis lived in Dallas and worked at Skillern’s Drug Store as a young adult and later moved back to Emory and owned a Five & Dime Store on the square with her sister Mozelle.

While living back in Emory, she met and married Earl Williams they were married September 23, 1950.  He worked for a highway construction contractor.  Sis and Earl lived and worked in West and Southwest Texas for many years before retiring to Emory.

Sis was always so happy to see her family and always had a smile and a twinkle in her eyes when someone came in her door.  She will be missed by many people. 

Although she was never able to have children of her own, she was a dear aunt to all the children in the family and was considered a second mother and grandmother.  Sis played the role of grandmother at more than one family wedding, and one of her great nieces, Amy Elizabeth Hughes, carries her name.

She was preceded in death by her husband Earl in 1986, and preceded by three brothers and three sisters:  Mary Vallie Dowd, Ollie Armstrong, Archie Armstrong, Claburn Armstrong, MozelleBasden  and Frances Willis.  Also preceded in death by nephews Bill Armstrong, John Armstrong, Vernon Cummings and Ken Dowd, and nieces Patsy Gordon and Joyce Carrell.

She is survived by four nieces and nephews:  Charles Armstrong, Ann Porterfield, Judy Davis and Mike Willis.

Her niece Joyce Carrell set Sis up with home health, and Meals on Wheels allowing her to live in her own home for as long as possible, and she did so until the age of 101.  Sis was also a 30 year cancer survivor.  She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987.

Sis was a long time member of the Emory Church of Christ.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made the Willow Springs – Turner Cemetery Association.

Mrs. Alice Myers, age 89 of Winnsboro, went to be with Jesus on Monday, October 31st, 2016. She was born on December 30th, 1926 in Wood County, TX to the late Ulysses Jordan and Zora Ingram Jordan. She was a seamstress and pattern maker, and was preceded in death by her parents; grandma and grandpa Whitworth that raised her; loving husband of 34 years, F.C. Myers; sisters, Mary Marrs and Bobby Long; granddaughter, Lesley Myers.

She is survived by sons, Glen Myers and wife Deanna of Ledyard CT. and Dan Myers and wife Janell of Dallas; daughter, Barbara Jean Smith and husband Winston of Winnsboro; brother, T.J. Jordan of Ft. Worth; sisters, Frankie Lee Brewer of Winnsboro; half sisters; Sylvia Peyton of Mabank’ Brenda Lockley of Terrell and half brother, John Calvin “Buddy” Jordan of Mesquite; eight grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 1st, 2016 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Beaty Funeral Home-Winnsboro 816 W. Broadway Winnsboro, TX 75494. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, November 2nd, 2016 at Beaty Funeral Home-Winnsboro 816 W. Broadway Winnsboro, TX 75494 at 11:00 am with Rev. Chauncey Nealy and Rev. Duncan Graham conducting. Interment will follow at Shady Grove Cemetery in Winnsboro, with Mike Smith, Chris Smith, Nick Smith, Thomas ramm, Colin Myers and Justin Dyess serving as pallbearers.

Easley, age 83, of Sulphur Springs, will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, November 3, 2016 at Restlawn Memorial Park.  Visitation will be held 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. p.m., prior to service, at West Oak Funeral Home. Dorothy passed away on Monday, October 31, 2016 in Sulphur Springs.

taylorFuneral services for Raymond Taylor, age 77, of Sulphur Springs, will be held Friday, November 4, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home with Rev. Mark Bryant officiating and Mike Armstrong and Rev. C.J. Duffey assisting. Interment will follow at Flower Mound Cemetery, in Flower Mound, with Christopher Joslin, Lance Hardin, Joshua Gange, Trent Case, Dyllan Case, and Seth Taylor serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service on November 4, 2016 from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.

Mr. Taylor passed away Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at his residence. He was born November 19, 1938, in McPherson, Kansas, the son of Clarence and Golda (Ihrig) Taylor. He married Rosalie Folk in Painesville, Ohio, on June 4, 1960; she preceded him in death. Raymond served in the U.S. Army, was a member at First Baptist Church in Sulphur Springs, was a member of the Kiwanis Club International, also volunteered at Chirstus Mother Frances Hospital in Sulphur Springs. He had an Associate’s degree, and worked as a computer programmer for Ryder Company.

Mr. Taylor is survived by his daughter, Renee Taylor of Sulphur Springs; son, Randall Taylor of Sulphur Springs; grandchildren, Hope Hardin, Christopher Joslin, Judith Gagne, and Seth Taylor; great-grandchildren, Trent Case, Dyllan Case, Ethan Joslin, Taylor Gagne, Joshua Gagne and Gage Hardin.

He is preceded in death by his wife and sister, Jewell Anderson.

Mr. Taylor’s family would like to give a special Thank You to Legacy Hospice.

Dustin Brandon Wright, 36, of Emory went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, October 29, 2016 in Emory. Funeral service and celebration of life will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Saturday, November 5, 2016 at Potts Ranch on FM 275 in Emory with Rev. Robert Burns officiating.  A private burial will be at Dougherty Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Ingram Funeral Home, Quinlan, Texas.

Dustin was born in Dallas, Texas on September 16, 1980. He is the son of Samuel Harold Wright and Sherri Leann Potts Wright. He was a member of the Chapel Hill Baptist Church.  Dustin was raised in Emory.  He graduated from Rains High School and went on to receive his associate’s degree from Navarro College with a certification from the John Deere Tech/Agriculture Mechanization program. Dustin’s number one passion in life was his three children.  He was a loving father, brother, and son.  Dustin enjoyed being outdoors, riding horses and if he wasn’t in a saddle he was on or under a tractor. He was always one to help others before himself.  Dustin loved and lived the cowboy way of life.

Dustin was preceded in death by his grandfather James Wright.

He is loved and will be missed by his parents; children Jaren Wright, Jara Wright, and Kyndlee Wright all of Emory; brother Jonathan Wright and wife Lanie of Emory; grandparents Bill and Betty Potts of Emory and Arlene Young of Edgewood; best friend Kevin Douglas, and a host of family and friends.

Funeral services for Beuna Marie (Susie) Peugh, age 92, formerly of Sulphur Springs are scheduled for 1:00 PM Saturday, November 5, 2016 at Tapp Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Justin Wilson officiating.Interment will be at Restlawn Memorial Park.   Serving as pallbearers will be family members.  No visitation has been scheduled.
Mrs. Peugh was born in Sulphur Springs, on December 23, 1923, the daughter of Wylie Hale and Vergie Barnard Hale.  She married John Edward Peugh in Sulphur Springs in 1941.  Mr. Peugh passed away in 2002.  She was a homemaker and a member of the Martin Springs Baptist Church.  Mrs. Peugh passed away Thursday, November 3, 2016, at her residence in Dallas.
Survivors include one son, Jimmy Peugh, of Dallas; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren; five great, great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Peugh: her parents; one daughter, Linda Gail Underwood.

Lionel “LJ” “Paw Paw” Joseph Songy, Jr. passed away on Friday, November 4, 2016. Age 62 years. Son of the late Lionel Joseph, Sr. and Louise Helwick Songy. Husband of Nancy Morgan Mackenroth Songy. Father of Annette Songy Castro (Carlos) and Jennifer Songy Perilloux (Cody). Brother of Wayne J. Songy, Sr. Stepfather of Joseph Mackenroth (Jessica) and Angie Mackenroth D’Ingianni (Steve). “Paw Paw” of Elle, Ava, Kailey, Chloe, Cooper, Nicole, Jayce and Joseph.

“LJ” was a 22 year employee of Fidelity Express, which he considered his second family. He was a huge fan of Walt Disney World and Mardi Gras. He loved his family and treasured his grandchildren. His laugh will continue to be heard.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service at LAKE LAWN METAIRIE FUNERAL HOME, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. (in Metairie Cemetery) on Tuesday, November 8, 2016 at 3:00 PM. Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow in Lake Lawn Park. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the charity of your choice in his name.

She was born on May 27th, 1957 in Ripley, Mississippi to the late George Keith and Sylvia Ridgeway. She worked as a CNA and caregiver before retirement, and was a Baptist. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Wayne Keith; and grandson, Joseph Arata.

She is survived by her husband, Robert Rogers of Winnsboro; daughters, Judy Arata of Winnsboro, Jennifer Baker of Virginia Beach, VA., Karen Baker of Sulphur Springs; son, Scott Baker of Mesquite; three sisters; sixteen grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, November 13th, 2016 at Beaty Funeral Home-Winnsboro at 2:00 pm, Pastor James McKee officiating.

Marilyn was born in Commerce, April 21, 1946, to Ernest Gale and Jimmie Aletha Boofer Scott. She worked as a beautician, as well as other jobs during her working career. She married Elbert T. Butler in Senatobia, MS, on April 21, 1986.

David (Dave) Gulley, Sr.

david-gulley-srDavid (Dave) Gulley Sr. joined his gracious Heavenly Father and Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 9, 2016 at the age of 91. He joins his beloved wife, Katy, who preceded him in death November 17, 2014. He was born in Norton, Texas on August 20, 1925, the son of William Effinger and Lillie Mae Gulley. After being introduced by mutual friends, he married Kathryn (Katy) Wrinkle from the neighboring town of Bronte, Texas on February 10, 1949. They were married 65 years.

Before marrying in 1949, Dave proudly served in the US Army as a machine gunner in WWII in the Philippines and Japan from1944-1946. He received numerous commendations for his admirable service to his beloved country.  Upon moving to Sulphur Springs, Texas, from Eunice, New Mexico, in 1965, he worked as plant manager for the Warren Petroleum/Chevron gas processing plant in Como, Texas. He received an award for giving emergency aid and CPR to 2 co-workers when he and the two were all overcome by H2S poisonous gas. He was credited with saving both of their lives. Dave helped to form the Hopkins County Military Coalition who, as a group of veterans, perform military funeral services to honor their fallen comrades. Dave was asked on numerous occasions to speak about his past experience serving in WWII. He was proud to be an American and of his part in insuring our freedom. Dave was a member of the First Baptist Church of SS for 51 years where he served as a deacon. He was an active member of the Stephen Bonner Sunday School class.  He was a huge Wildcat football supporter attending games with season tickets for 51 years. He climbed the stairs to his seats at the top and traveled to an away game a few weeks ago at 91. He would always rewatch the games on tv to make sure he hadn’t missed anything. He loved driving a bulldozer to build a new lake or push brush on his land at Pickton. His play was his work. He loved hunting deer on his land. He loved his family and always supported each of them in whatever activity or sport they were involved in. Each of them always felt loved, respected, and admired by him.

He is survived by 3 children and their spouses including David Gulley Jr. and wife Linda of Sulphur Springs, Susan Moore and husband Doug of Sulphur Springs, and Jeff Gulley and wife Connie of Whitehouse, Texas, 5 grandchildren including Kori Reed and Shane of Sulphur Springs, Amy Cagle and Will of Tyler, Steve Moore of Sulphur Springs, Stacy Moore and Brannon of Sulphur Springs, and Reid Gulley of Stephenville, Texas. He was blessed with 6 great-grandchildren, including 2 sets of boy-girl twins, Maverick and Jolea Moore, and Cole and Libby Cagle, Jaci Reed, Jett Moore, and a grandson, Brooks Cagle, on the way. They have all been blessed by God to call him family, friend, mentor, witness, and Godly example by which to model their own lives. He leaves quite a legacy for his family. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Effinger and Lillie Mae Gulley, and 4 siblings, James Gulley, Jessie Johnson, Owren Dunn, and Jessie Johnson, and his beloved wife, Katy.

Family visitation to honor his life will be from 6:00-8:00 pm at West Oak Funeral Home on Thursday, Nov. 10, as Dave would want all his friends to attend the Friday night Wildcat football playoff game. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at 10:00 am in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church with Pastor Mark Bryant and Rev. Fred Lewis officiating. Military graveside honors by the Hopkin County Military Coalition will follow at Restlawn Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers will include grandsons Steve Moore and Reid Gulley, grandson-in-laws Brannon Moore, Will Cagle, and Shane Reed, and nephew Kerry Wrinkle. Honorary pallbearers are Gene White, DeWayne McMeans, Walter Grice, Ronnie Nix, Jimmy Price, Mike Bowman, and Johnny Caruthers, as well as, the Hopkins County Military Coalition.

Memorials in his name may be made to the Hopkins County Military Coalition at 147 Fore St, Sulphur Springs, TX 75482.  Arrangements are under the direction of West Oaks Funeral Home.

Ms. Scarborough passed away Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at her residence. She was born February 2, 1943 in Winnsboro, Texas, the daughter of Morris and Mary (Huett) Dickenson. She married Carl Scarborough, who preceded her in death. Mary was retired from Super Handy and a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Sulphur Springs.

Ms. Scarborough is survived by her sons, Donny Foster and husband Joe Autrey, Billy Foster and wife Leslie, and Jamie Foster; daughter, Melanie Foster Mollenhour and husband Chris; grandchildren, Donya West, Tristen Schell, Shannon Autrey-Foster, JT Autrey-Foster, Amanda Foster, Alexis Foster, Joshua Foster, Brandon Foster, Wendy Foster, Cameron Foster, Cassidy Bunch, Chelsey Joslin, Shelbee Foster, and Tayler Foster; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death is her husband; parents; and brother Doug Dickenson.

Dyann Kerbow Poulter

Graveside services for Dyann Kerbow Poulter, age 80, of Sulphur Springs will be conducted at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, November 12, 2016 at Emblem Cemetery with Rev. Doyle Hayes officiating.  There will be no formal visitation.  Mrs. Poulter passed away on November 10, 2016 at Christus Mother Frances Hospital in Sulphur Springs.

She was born on February 18, 1936 the daughter of Conrad Hall Kerbow and Ruth D. Turner Kerbow.  She married Michael Gene Poulter and he survives.  Mrs. Poulter was a homemaker and retired from Walmart.  She was a member of Posey Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by one daughter, Lygia Dunsworth and husband Tim, son Michael Marcus Poulter, brother, James Kerbow and wife Lynette, sister, Janice Kerbow Smith, grandchildren, Scott, Tim and Baylee.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and brother, Don Kerbow.

Arrangements are under the direction of West Oaks Funeral Home.
