

Funeral services for Edna Earle “Mammy” Grant, age 98, of Sulphur Springs, will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, April 13, 2016, at West Oaks Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Bill Grant officiating. Interment will follow at Sulphur Springs City Cemetery with Frank Long, Tommy Long, Jim Chapman, Robert Aiguier, Winston Perkins and Bill Aiguier serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m., one hour prior to the service. Mrs. Grant passed away on Monday, April 11, 2016 at Carriage House Manor.
She was born on March 4, 1918, in Tira, TX, the daughter of Harvey Howard Chapman and Mable Brice Chapman. Mrs. Grant was a long-time resident of Sulphur Springs, she served as one of the original members of the Hi King Klub from 1933 to 1934, and then attended ETSU. In the 1950’s she was a U.S. Census taker, then began working as a store manager for House Anderson Shoes in Sulphur Springs. Mrs. Grant was a longtime and faithful member of First Christian Church, and a lifelong member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She married Jack Blansett Grant on June 18, 1938 in Sulphur Springs. He precedes her in death.
She is survived by her sons, Jackie Grant and wife, Deanna of Sulphur Springs, Mark Grant and wife, Molly of Garland, grandchildren, Jonathan Kennedy and wife, April of Sulphur Springs, Jennifer Massey and husband, Tiger of Sulphur Springs, Jordan Grant of Temple, Whitney King and husband Klint of Ft. Worth, Ethan Grant and Alexi Jo Grant, both of Garland, great grandchildren, Trenton Kennedy, Chloe Kennedy, Megan Massey, and Madeline Massey, Judd King and Grant Klaire King, brother, Harve Chapman and wife, Martha Kate of Sulphur Springs and sister-in-law, Agnes Chapman of Garland, son-in-law, Joe Kennedy and wife Mandy of Sulphur Springs.
She is preceded in death by her parents, daughter Pam Grant Kennedy, brothers, Bert Chapman, John Murray Chapman, Floyd Chapman, sisters, Eva Ruth Long, Billiefae Chapman.

Mr. George “Bo” Romine, age 58 of Winnsboro, passed away on Saturday, April 9th, 2016 in Mt. Pleasant. He was born on June 29th, 1957 in Pittsburg to the late George Edward Romine and Doris Brown Edlin. He was an Equipment Operator at Lowes Distribution Center, was a member of First Assembly of God of Winnsboro.
He was preceded in death by his father, George Edward Romine, his step-father, Billy G. Edlin.
He is survived by, his loving wife, Lisa Stricklin Romine of Winnsboro; mother, Doris Fay Edlin of Irving; son, George Edward Romine and wife Jennifer of South Bend, IN.; daughter, Holly Renee` Romine Hood of Winnsboro; brothers, Tracy Wayne Romine and wife Tina of Winnsboro, Jason Leroy Romine and wife Jenni of Henderson; sister, Teresa Kay Giles and husband Raymond of Irving; grandchild, Cameron Sarah Jo Hood of Winnsboro.

Rickey passed away on Monday, April 11, 2016 at Baylor Medical Center of Dallas. He was born on January 7, 1945 in Sulphur Springs, the son of Leon Henry (Buddy) and Helen Ruth (Williams) Patrick. He was married to Sharon Louise Attaway. He was a retired truck driver and a dairy farmer.
Along with his wife, other survivors include his sons, Michael Patrick and wife, Patricia of Dallas and Mark Patrick and wife, Jenna of Lewisville; daughter, Stacey Patrick and husband, Steve of Sulphur Springs; grandson, Corey Cole; granddaughter, Lexey Patrick; great-grandson, Karsyn Roberts; mother, Helen Gumm of Sulphur Springs; brother, Barry Patrick and wife, Sue of Reilly Springs and sister, Cathy Hesterly and husband, Steve of Jacksonville; step-sons, Paul Ray Vititow, Jr. and wife, Shelly of Sulphur Springs, Jeff Vititow of Winnsboro, Doug Askew and wife, Stephanie of Round Rock and Gaylon Askew and wife, Tamaki of Portland, OR; step-daughters, LeAnn Tadlock and husband, Randy of Sulphur Springs, Tracey Fatland and Brian Coleman of Lake Fork; twelve step-grandchildren and twenty-four step-great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his father; daughter, Paula Sue Vititow and step-grandson, Jason Tadlock.
Johnny Levi Culpepper, age 71, of Pickton, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 12th, 2016 at his home in Pickton. Johnny was born on May 18th, 1945 in Pickton, to the late John Harold Culpepper and Willie Faye Alford Culpepper. Johnny grew up in the East Texas area and joined the Navy at age 17. Johnny left the Navy after his tour of duty, and went on to a career in the electrical supply business, retiring after 34 years with Elliott Electric Supply in 2010. He was a member of Winterfield Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his father, mother; and brother, Michael Lewis Culpepper.
He is survived by, his loving wife of almost 50 years, Janie Brooks Culpepper of Pickton; three children, Jeanna Culpepper of Troup, Shane Culpepper of Pickton, Michael Culpepper and wife Sherri of Pickton; four grandchildren, Joshua Melton of Bullard, Jillian Barnes of Troup, Matthew Phillips of Taylorsville, UT., Georgia Culpepper of Keithville, LA.; eight great-grandchildren, Jaci, Jo, Grace, Madison, Addison, Cash Levi, Rooster, and River Shayne; two brothers, Kenneth Culpepper and wife Emily of Tyler, Rev. Jack Culpepper and wife Joyce of Mt. Pleasant, and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.

Joe died Monday evening, April 11, 2016 at his residence. He was born June 27, 1944, in Pittsburg, to Edward Drew and Edith Ruth O’Rear Burns. He was career Navy, serving some 28 years, before retiring. He married Linda Ann Odom in Greenville, on July 13, 2000.
Pallbearers will be Eddie Burns, Ronnie Burns, Colton Burns, Tre Burns, Vernon Wilson, and James Burns, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Edward Burns, James Burns, Sr., and Dewey Fleming.

Robert passed away on Thursday, April 14, 2016 at his residence. He was born on September 2, 1943 in Selma, AL the son of Lester Earl and Estelle (Warren) Pickering. He married Betty Joan Mims on April 6, 1973 in Selma, AL. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Taiwan and was a retired manager of Ferndale Fishing Club in Pittsburg.
Along with his wife, other survivors include his sons, Shannon Pickering and wife, Heidi of Brashear and Branden Pickering and wife, Lea of Billingsley, AL; grandchildren, Blake and Sarah Pickering; brother, Harvey Pickering and sister, Miriam Wells.
He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Peggy Scott.

Jerry Wayne Dowse went peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, April 15, 2016, and joined his loving family who had preceded him. He leaves behind his high school sweetheart Colleen Chadick Dowse who was his wife of 57 years, and his children, Jana Lane Dowse and Jerry Wayne Dowse, Jr. and wife Stephanie.
Jerry was born July 3, 1939, in Newsome, TX, to Iris Hill Dowse and Thomas Francis Dowse. He went to school in Newsome, Pittsburg, and then Winnsboro where enjoyed playing football, graduating in 1957. From Winnsboro he went to Texas A&M and then to Texas Tech where he was joined by Colleen. Missing A&M, they soon went back there for Jerry to finish his degree in Chemical Engineering in 1963 while Colleen worked on the campus as women could not attend A&M at that time. Jerry then earned his Registered Professional Engineer Certification and became involved in the Petrochemical industry for 30 years designing and building chemical plants for engineering companies in Texas and all over the world, even moving the family to Jakarta Indonesia where he designed plants and transferred American technology to the local engineers. They moved back to Houston where he finished his career there and in Corpus Christi.
In addition to his wife, daughter, son, and daughter-in-law, Jerry is survived by two grandsons and one great grandson – Austin, Marshall and Blayne Dowse. Also surviving are sisters-in-law Bette Tinney Chadick and Cynthia Russell Dowse, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Thomas Francis Dowse, Jr., Grandparents Henry and Madie Cook Hill and Edward and Annie Martin Dowse.
Visitation will be at Beaty Funeral Home on Sunday April 17 from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m., and funeral service on Monday April 18 at 1:00 p.m. with burial in Lee Cemetery. Mary Burks, age 88, of Sulphur Springs, passed awayWednesday, April 13, 2016 at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital. She was born the daughter of Albert Hoskinson and Prudence (Kirtley) Hoskinson on January 9, 1928 in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. She was a homemaker and a member of Wesley United Methodist Church.
Survivors include: One daughter, Mary Cochran and husband, Richard of Ashland, Kentucky; one son, William David Edwards of Hammonds, Louisiana ; four grandchildren, Stacy Cochran, Richard Cochran III, Jesse Edwards and Krystal Roberts; two sisters, Linda Gates and Geneva Bailey; a brother, Johnny Hoskinson; and many nieces and nephews

Patricia L. Tucker, 79, a longtime resident of Como, passed away Saturday, April 16, 2016 in Childress, Texas.
She is survived by a son, Terry Tucker, his wife Debbie and two grandchildren, Olivia and Reece of Childress. She is also survived by many nieces, nephew and cousins.
Pat was born on July 25, 1936 in Como, Texas to parents Phillip and Effie Coker. She was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, John H. Tucker Jr. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Joe Donald Coker, Max Coker and her sister Miriam Kathleen Coker Bulvan.
She worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, Atlantic and Pacific Stores and Retired as a head cashier from Safeway Grocery stores. She also operated a dairy farm with her family. In later years, she also worked as an employee of Joe Bob’s Convenience store. She attended church at Fellowship Baptist Church in Como.
Pat had a love for her family and life. She enjoyed her work and the interactions with the people she encountered through her work. One of her favorite memories was of watching the young people who worked at the Sulphur Springs Safeway as their first jobs grow to adults. Pat also enjoyed the many relationships she had with her family, co-workers and friends.
The family would like to thank Hospice of Childress for their overwhelming care, kindness, compassion and service.

Luella was born December 10, 1935 in Wood County, TX to Perry and Era Gilbreath and died April 17, 2016 in Sulphur Springs. She was a homemaker and lived most of her life in Wood County. She was also a member of White Oak Baptist Church in Yantis.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frankie Bevill, in 1996.
Survivors include son, Terry Bevill and wife Edwinna of Yantis; daughter, Cheryl Yeatts and husband Barry of Irving; brother, Wayne Gilbreath of Quitman; two sisters, Eldavada Gilbreath of Yantis and Jessie Witt of Quitman; three grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

He was born on January 7, 1964, in Sulphur Springs, the son of Ibra Mitchell Mills and Melba Ann (Green) Mills and was a married to Kerianne (Gardner) Mills Mr. Mills was a truck driver.

Warren passed away on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at his residence. He was born on October 18, 1926 in Floydada, the son of George Franklin and Carrie Pearl (Hicks) Attaway. He married Juanita Mae Swatsell on January 12, 1949 in Yantis. He served the military in the U.S. Army and then re-enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, served as a Deacon at First Baptist Church – Yantis for over sixty years, served on the Yantis ISD School Board for eighteen years, formerly was a dairy farmer, was in the construction business and retired from the insurance business where he was affiliated with Germania Farm Mutual for thirty-five years.
He is survived by his wife; children, Beverly Kay Page and husband, Robert of Tyler, Michael Warren Attaway and wife, Pegi of Winnsboro and Wesley Howard Attaway and wife, Christi of Miller Grove; grandchildren, Karla Kay Gregg, Michael Lynn Attaway, Autumn Grier, Brandy Quick, April Reel, Ashley Davis, Wesley Zane Attaway, Jennifer Collins, Benjamin Zack Attaway and Jonathan Michael Attaway; thirteen great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
