Ronald Paul Branom was born on September 16, 1951 in Sulphur Springs, the son of Paul Branom and Rachel (Randall) Branom.   He was a computer programmer and an entrepreneur and was of the Methodist faith.  Mr. Branom passed away on Monday, March 21, 2016, at Heritage Garden in Carrollton.

Survivors include, two daughters, Rebecca Garrett, and husband, Matthew, of Grapevine and Victoria Branom of Austin; and two grandchildren, Griffin and Breccan Garrett.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Gary Jordan officiating.  Interment will follow at Como Cemetery with great-grandsons serving as pallbearers.  Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 prior to service time.  Mrs. Westbrook passed away Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at Paris Regional Hospital.

Mrs. Westbrook was born on November 22, 1922 in Rule, TX, the daughter of William Clyde Yarbrough and V Annis Eldredge Yarbrough.  She married Jeff E. Taylor Jr. and he preceded her in death.  She married R. B. Westbrook and he preceded her in death.  She was a homemaker and loved taking care of her family, she loved to cook, crochet and was quite the antiquarian, she also was an avid reader.  She is survived by daughter, Vannis Grimes and husband, Ray of Sulphur Springs, brothers, Alton Yarbrough and Kenny Yarbrough both of Albuquerque, NM, grandchildren, Lora Gowin, David Grimes, Connie Kinney, Amy Keys and husband, Scott, Lonnie Taylor, Joseph Trumble, John Trumble, great-grandchildren, Blake Irving, Macey Long, Cody Gowin, Taylor Kinney, Bailee Coleman, Kelsie Gowin, Hunter Coleman, Matthew Kinney, Mason Gowin, Austin Grimes, Dylan Taylor, Gracie Taylor, Kaylee Trumble, Brantley Trumble, and Kelly Keys, great great-grandchildren, Trenton Irving and one on the way, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her son, Jeff E. Taylor III, daughters, Sandra Kay Trumble and Janis Taylor, grandson, Windell Gowin one brother, four sisters.

Ray Lunday

Ray L. Lunday passed away on Tuesday, March 22, in Dallas, Texas at the age of 79.

He was born in Wichita Falls to Leslie and Faye Lunday.

He married Betty Hayes on February 14, 1998 and lived at Lake Fork following retirement from Ford Motor Company.  He worked at Ford for many years as a millwright.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Lunday and sister, Dannie Smith.  Ray’s children consists of Debbie Stoutimore, Rheada Leonard, Jimmie Allmon, Laurie Maggard, David Stanley, Phyllis Sacone and Marilyn Gonzales.  He has 14 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

Hobbies included antique Ford cars, model airplanes, hunting and fishing.

Memorial service will be held Saturday, March 26, 2016 at 11:00 a.m., with Dr. Jimmy Henry officiating.   Arrangements are under the direction of West Oaks Funeral Home.

Paul McMerrell will officiate.  Burial will follow in Dunbar Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 pm Tuesday evening at Wilson-Orwosky Funeral Home. Ms. Mays died Saturday night at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital in Sulphur Springs.
She was born Jan. 15, 1955, in Greenville to Orion Forrest and Edna Earl Porter. She married Gary Steven Mays in Bonham on Aug. 5, 1978. Karen was a school teacher for Rains I.S.D. for some 33 years before retiring. She attended Bull Creek Cowboy Church.
Survivors include:

Sons:  Dustin Mays of Chicago; and Blake Mays (Kassi) of Edgewood
Daughter:  Lauren Taylor (Matt) of Caddo Mills
Brothers:  Gary Michael Porter and Ken Porter (Beth) both of Bonham
Grandchildren:  Emma, Lainey, Charlee, Maysie, and Porter
Numerous nieces and nephews and other loving family and friends
She was preceded in death by her parents.

SureneCody[1]Surene Simmons Cody, 73, of Sulphur Springs, went to be with the Lord on Easter Resurrection Day March 27, 2016.

Funeral service will be held at First United Methodist Church on March 30, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Pete Adrian officiating and Rev. Fred Lewis assisting. Burial will follow at City Cemetery. Visitation will be held at West Oaks Funeral Home on March 29, 2016 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Pallbearers are Dr. Bill Dietz, Phil Morgan, Barry Ferrill, Tommy Kelty, Heath Hyde and Brett Brock. Special friends and Honorary Pallbearers are Darlene Kendricks, Janette Watson, Kay McCool, and Linda Hagar.

Surene was born in Sulphur Bluff to Alvis Bailey Simmons and Mabel Martin Simmons on November 20, 1942. She graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in 1960 where she was Drum Major in the High School Band, Most Beautiful and Beauty Queen.  She married Bob Cody on July 22, 1960. She graduated from Paris Junior College School of Nursing in 1975 as a Registered Nurse and worked at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital for 33 years where she was an operating room nurse and supervisor of surgery. She served 13 years as Secretary and Treasurer for the Hopkins County Boys Baseball. She was a member of First United Methodist Church since 1962 and member of the Messengers Sunday School class. She enjoyed playing bridge and watching any sporting event her sons or grandchildren were playing.

Surene is survived by her husband, brother Joe Don Simmons and wife Linda of Mesquite, son Stuart Cody and wife Amber, son Stacy Cody and wife Kellie, son Robert Cody and wife Tracey, all of Sulphur Springs, grandchildren Katelyn Roden and husband Austin, Toni Cody and fiancé Justin Owens, Ross Cody, Cain Cody, Maci Merrell, Campbell Cody, sister-in-law Sue Adam and husband Dave, Patsy Cody Morrison and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.

Memorials can be made to the First United Methodist Church Memorial Fund in the name of Surene Cody.

Joseph “J.C.” passed away on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at Carriage House Manor.  He was born on November 16, 1927 in Old Boston, the son of Walter Eugene and Carrie (Campbell) Pace.  He married Vela Mae Pomeroy on December 28, 1952 in Rockwall.  He served in the U.S. Air Force with the 5th Air Force Unit and the 20th Air Force Unit as a Staff Sargent during the World War II and Korean War, he was a dairy farmer and a member of Junius Heights Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife; sons, Thomas Pace of Dike, James Pace and Kimberly of Thermo, John Pace of Tyler, Joel Pace and wife, Melinda of Dike; grandchildren, Brad and Misty Tittle, Jeff Pace, Kris and Alaynna Pace, D.J. and Elizabeth Wulf, Kade Pace, Krista Pace, Koey Pace, Cassidy Pace, Cobley Pace and Ashley Pace; great-grandchildren, Layden Pace, Levi Henderson, Micah Henderson, Daniel Wulf, Elisha Wulf, Brayden Tittle and Brody Tittle and sister, Audrey White.

He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Daniel Pace; brothers, Leonard Pace, Leslie Pace, Herbert Pace and Herman Pace and sister, Clara Grace Coleman.

Arnold was born on November 3, 1945, in Corsicana to Earl David and Irma Lee Hemby Combs. He was a self employed paint contractor most of his life.

Dorothy was born on September 14th, 1922 in Slocum, TX. to the late Hamilton West and Nancy Emmie Ball West. She was a homemaker, a member of Smyrna Baptist Church and the WMA’s at Smyrna Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 63 years, Henry Glen Thornton; sisters, Stella O’Neal, Hattie Webb, Gladys West Creager, Beulah Fletcher, Ozetta Hobson; two brothers, Roscoe West, Willie West; grandchildren, Michael Thornton, Renee Jones; and great-grandson, Preston Thornton.
She is survived by her son, Jerry Thornton and wife Katie of Winnsboro; daughters, Fonda Hawk and husband Raymond of Daingerfield, Patricia Carnagey and husband David of Greenville; five grandchildren, Joey Thornton, Kris Thornton, Nikki Carnagey, Mark Hawk, Kim Francis; eleven great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held on Monday, April 4th, 2016 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Beaty Funeral Home-Winnsboro; Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, April 5th, 2016 at Beaty Funeral Home-Winnsboro at 2:00 pm, Bro. Danny Suiter, Bro. Dan Hubbell and Bro. Tony passed away on Monday, April 4, 2016 at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital.  He was born on July 27, 1958 in Paris, the son of Elmer Joe and Lulla Ellen (Landers) Holmes.  He married Sheri Renee Eppars on December 8, 1979 in Commerce.  He was a truck driver and of the Church of Christ faith.

He is survived by his wife; daughter, Jennifer Ricketson and husband, Jason of Sulphur Springs; son, Jay Holmes and wife, Valerie of LaFayette, LA; grandchildren, Shelbi Ricketson, Colton Ricketson, Emma Holmes and Ethan Holmes; mother and step-father, Lulla Hill and husband, L.C. of Cooper and sister, Jana Choate and husband, Bill of Cooper.

He is preceded in death by his father.

Doris passed away on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at Sunny Springs Nursing Home.  She was born on March 22, 1924 in Hopkins County, the daughter of Victor E. and Ellen (Russell) Williams.  She married Elvis Nordin, who preceded her in death.  She then married Eldon Ring, who also preceded her in death.  She was a retired cafeteria worker and a member of the League Street Church of Christ.

She is survived by her daughter, Linda Burgin and husband, Joe Bob of Sulphur Springs; son, Johnny Nordin and wife, Cathy of Sulphur Springs; grandchildren, Brad Burgin and wife, Julie, Corey Burgin and wife, Teffany, Jon Eric Nordin and wife, Laura, Landon Nordin and wife, Carla, , Dannett Sears and husband, Dwayne, Keith Edwards and wife, Angie, great-grandchildren, Bailey Burgin, Zackery Burgin, Mason Burgin, Connor Burgin, Brooks Burgin, Brinley Nordin, Ella Grace Nordin, Cara Nordin, Issabella Nordin, Annabella Nordin, Pacen Edwards Dawson Sears and Dlayne Sears; son-in-law, Larry Edwards and wife, Linda; sisters-in-law, Reba Williams and Hartense Williams.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Jalane Edwards; three brothers and four sisters.

He is survived by his sons, Brandon Walters and wife Kara of Lindale and Buddy Walters and wife Pattie of Winnsboro; daughter, Lisa Price and husband Stephen of Winnsboro; brother, Tommy Walters and wife Patsey of Pickton; sister, Janie Beth Rudolph of Victoria; grandchildren, Blake Walters, Josh Walters, Kassidy Walters, Amanda Price, Thomas Daniel Walters and Jacklyn Danielle Straight and husband Zachary; one great grandchild, Zane Straight. ‘

Gretchen Bell “Dutch” Arnold

Mrs. Gretchen Bell ” Dutch” Arnold, age 91 of Sulphur Springs, passed away on Saturday, April 9th, 2016 in Sulphur Springs. She was born on March 7th, 1925 in Pickton to the late A.J. “Jack” Alford and Effie Francis Keith Alford. She was a seamstress, was a current member of Winterfield Baptist Church and a former member of Davis Street Baptist Church. She was a fifty year member of the Woodmen of the World and was baptized on Wednesday, July 17, 1933, at Winterfield Baptist Church. She married Curtis Leon Gunn on June 10, 1939 and her preceded her on October 3, 1961. She later married L.Z. Arnold on February 6, 1965 and he preceded her on June 30, 1993.

Also preceding in death are her parents, five brothers and eight sisters.

She is survived by daughters, Virsie Boyd of Pickton and Carol Vernon and husband Roy Mitchell of Sulphur Springs; sons, B.J. Gunn and wife Carmen of Hot Springs, AR and Leon Gunn and wife Patty of Pickton; ten grandchildren, Bill, Tony and Shawn Boyd, Angela Boyd Sevier, Curtis, Megan and B.J. Gunn, Jr., Chris and LeAnn Gunn, Stephanie Gunn Buster, Cody Mitchell, Andrew Mitchell and Joe Mitchell; twenty-four great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 12th, 2016 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Beaty Funeral Home-Winnsboro 816 W. Broadway Winnsboro, TX 75494. image1Memorial service for Paydon Boyd Coffman, age 18, of Emory, will be held Wednesday, at the Rains High School football field. Paydon died Saturday, April 9, 2016, in a vehicle accident in Rains County.
Paydon was born April 29, 1997, in McKinney, to Michael Boyd and Susan Diane Bryant Coffman. He was a 2015 graduate of Rains High School. He played sports from a young age through his senior year in school.  Football and baseball were his passions. During his senior year of high school, 2014-2015,  he was voted Captain of the football team.
